Major Taylor Velodrome | Skate & Bike Park

Indianapolis is also home to a FREE skate park! My brother was a skater boy and I remember the year my parents PAID for him to have a membership at the Vans Skate Park in my home town (the OC).

Lulu won’t be wearing wheels on her feet anytime soon but we had a great time watching young kids and teenagers at the Major Taylor Velodrome skate/bike park (3649 Cold Spring Rd.). They had some amazing tricks and we saw them flying high into the air, flipping around and doing things that even in my wildest dreams I couldn’t do! It was really fun to watch everyone. Wouldn’t your kids enjoy watching too?

The official rules on the Indy Parks website say that skaters and bikers must wear appropriate safety gear: knee pads, elbow pads and helmets. The park is open from dawn until dusk and is open every day, year round unless it is raining or snowing or there are clinics or events at the skate park.

While I was there I watched about 20+ kids skate and ride bikes and not a single one had ANY safety gear on. Not even a single piece. The park was not supervised at all and until I arrived there were no adults present. As Lulu and I were leaving one adult arrived with his children but most kids were there by themselves. It was very hot when we visited and there was no shade. Bring your own drinking water (or purchase from the soda machines).
