If you’ve ever read my “About” page, then you know that my exploration of Indiana began with visiting the wineries. What better way to see and taste the entire state than to spend a leisurely Saturday afternoon visiting wineries, stoping for a picnic lunch and then visiting more wineries? My husband and I made it our goal to go to EVERY single winery in Indiana. We almost met that goal…and then more wineries opened and then we had babies and we have yet to complete this goal. There are 69 wineries in Indiana, some are in garages and some are in huge, beautiful buildings surrounded by vineyards. We’ve experienced everything!
Every summer, a bunch of Indiana wineries get together at Military park downtown for Vintage, Indiana’s largest wine festival. Vintage Indiana Wine & Food Festival makes it very easy for you to check out nearly half of the Indiana wineries in one place! One year Jay and I worked at the festival for one of our favorite wineries — we poured samples and talked wine with visitors. We had a great time and we learned a lot!
Vintage will be held on Saturday, June 1st at Military Park (601 W New York St, Indianapolis) from 11am to 7pm. Tickets are available for $22 when purchased in advance at Marsh supermarkets or online. Tickets are $25 at the gate. Designated Driver tickets are $10 and include unlimited soft drinks and water. No wine glass or wine samples allowed on this ticket. Kids ages 6-20 are $5. Under 5 years old are free.
I know you are wondering why kids would even want to come….or why you would even want to BRING your kids. With the live entertainment, the food and the Kidzone, Vintage is just like any other festival, it’s just targeted towards adults while still providing distraction and fun for the kids!
You’ll hear music from Cari Ray (12-2pm), Jennie DeVoe (2:30-4:30pm) and Josh Gracin, former US Marine and American Idol (5-6:45pm).
You are invited and encouraged to bring a blanket or chair for each person to sit on. The event will take place rain or shine! No outside food or beverage allowed.
Thanks to Indiana’s Family of Farmers and the Indiana Wine Grape Council, I get to giveaway a set of tickets to one of you! Enter below:
