Competitive cooking sounds like what happens at church pitch-ins, neighborhood gatherings and superbowl parties. With the rise of Pinterest, it seems like all of my friends are one upping each other everywhere we go. Who has the prettiest veggie tray, the fanciest bread, the yummiest casserole? My idea of competition comes with speed! 30 minutes meals, no thanks, 15 minute meals, uh-uh. Take that timer down to 8 minutes and I’m sold on your menu plan… That’s competition!
Top Chef, Chopped, Master Chef, Hells Kitchen, The Next Iron Chef, move over! Zest ‘n Zing is happening right here in Indy! Zest ‘n Zing is a competition like none other because it’s an event specifically meant for the “at home chef”. Two teams, each made up of a chef and farmer will go head to head to create a new dish! A panel of judges will decide and one audience member will be invited to join the judges panel (pick me! pick me!)!
Zest ‘n Zing takes place at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick History Center in downtown Indianapolis on Tuesday, May 7. Tickets are $20 (must be purchased in advance) and proceeds benefit Gleaners Food Bank. Your ticket fee includes a reception at 5pm where you are invited to mix, mingle and eat with farmers from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. downstairs. You’ll have five food tickets and two drink tickets to experience yummy Indiana food, beers and wine. Non-alcoholic beverages are also available for free. Each person will receive a swag bag with kitchen and cooking items for their home kitchens! At 7pm, the farmer and chef teams will go head to head in the auditorium as attendees watch and maybe even cheer them on!
I’ll be there! I’m leaving the kids at home this time. Children are welcome at this event BUT it is not geared towards them. If you see me, please come say hi!
Also, I have two tickets to give away to one luck Indy with Kids reader! Woohoo! Please enter below! Contest ends Thursday at midnight. Please enter below and I really hope YOU win!

As an ambassador for Indiana’s Family of Farmers, I have been given tickets to attend this event and compensated. All thoughts, stories and opinions are my own and I am so excited to share this event with you AND to attend this event! IFOF has also provided two free tickets for one of our lucky readers and this makes me so happy!
