Since Fall has arrived in Indiana it’s going to be getting cooler with each passing week. This should remind us all that our days of playing outside in the sunshine, wearing flip flops and shorts are very limited. For that reason you should enjoy every single moment outdoors that you can! The Indiana Department of Natural Resources agrees. In addition, they want you to learn all about the opportunities available to “play” outside in Indiana.
The Hoosier Outdoor Experience is just that, a FREE outdoor experience with more than SIXTY activities that your family can have a chance to participate in (ummm, for FREE). We’re talking remote controlled boats, fishing, hunting, trapping, water dog demonstrations, fossil hunting, pony rides, hay rides, horse drawn carriage rides, gold panning, jeep rides, cave simulation, disc golf and pretty much EVERYTHING you can do outdoors in Indiana. This event is so big that it takes place over two days. Some events are only available on Saturday but that information is here.
Head over to Fort Harrison State Park on Saturday and Sunday, September 15th-16th from 9am to 6pm and be ready to play! Wear or bring appropriate clothing for most any possibility. No pets allowed unless they are guide animals. Bicycles will not be allowed in the park the day of the event. Alcohol and coolers must be left at home. Parking will not be at the park, you will have to park at the Major General E.J. Bean Finance Center parking lot (8899 East 56th Street) and take a shuttle in.
Food will be available for sale at the event but you are invited to bring your own (just not in a cooler). Strollers are permitted. Bring sunblock, sunglasses and a hat for all events. Water bottles are permitted.
Registration is not required but it is requested just to help the DNR get an idea of what to expect. Last year there were over 20,000 visitors!
See you there!
