You know that drought that we have? I know that it definitely threw a wrench in our summer plans; we’ve had to forgo our regular bonfires, stop running through the sprinklers, abandon the idea of beautiful fresh flowers from the garden, skip picnics on our formerly green front lawn and observe downtimes at the local splash park. Well, as much as we’ve suffered, the drought has an ability to affect trees in the long term.
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful has been putting together volunteer tree watering crews all summer. Not only is there a need for volunteers to do this, but money is needed to get the water where it needs to go. There’s a great event taking place on Friday, September 14th from 6pm to 9pm at the KIB offices (1029 Fletcher Ave).
Draught for Drought is a fundraiser and awareness campaign presented by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and Sun King Brewery and you are invited for the fun! For a $5 donation each, you and your family can enjoy a root beer or beer tasting courtesy of Sun King Brewery—in a commemorative pint glass, food trucks, and draught root beer.
Take a photo in the Hug a Tree photo booth, learn about how to properly take care of trees during the severe drought and take part in education stations so your family can learn in a hands-on environment. You can also take a tour of the KIB offices if you wish. The best part? You can sign your family up for the watering and mulching volunteer opportunities! We’re always looking for ways to get our kids active in giving back to the community and I know that many of you are also! Jump in!
